With a volcanic origin, Corvo Island consists of a single extinct volcanic mountain - Monte Gordo, crowned with a huge crater of subsidence locally called Caldeirao, with 3.7 km in circumference and 300 m deep. From the Caldeirão lookout it is possible to see this vast volcanic depression and enjoy the quiet calmness that characterizes this remote part of the archipelago.
